Here are the comments that the students submitted on their course evaluations for this class at the end of the Fall 2022 and Fall 2023 Semesters:
- WOW! What a great professor and class! Bill Reese is one of the most organized professors I’ve had and it makes taking this class easy. The material itself can be challenging but he does a great job of making learning as easy as possible and provides so many resources to his students that there is no complaints from me!
- There is nothing else to say than that Mr. Reese is an excellent and charismatic professor who cares about his students and teaches in a fun way.
- Very straight-forward, organized course – if you follow what the professor says, you will succeed. Learned a lot.
- I had sat in on this class’s first session twice and waited until I had time to really focus on it, as it was the course I was most worried about, but Prof. Reese has perfected his teaching method. I learned more about things I can use in my daily life (mortgages, credit card APRs etc.) than any other course. Although many concepts are challenging, the range of supporting material is excellent, from general concepts in the textbook (sometimes a little confusing as they can present different options/terminology than the class does) to especially the regular quizzes which really helped me ensure I understood the underlying ideas.
- It is very rare to find a professor who conveys information as efficiently and provokes learning as well as Professor Reese. It has been a pleasure to attend his class.
- I loved this class! Although the content itself was challenging, I knew exactly what to expect on both quizzes and tests. Professor Reese is not trying to confuse you, and he tells you exactly what you need to do to succeed. As a student, I really appreciate professors like this because I am not worried about them throwing curve balls, rather I can focus on learning the material. I also enjoyed how I could easily find all materials and videos on his website. If there was a question I had, there was more than likely a resource to answer it. Professor Reese gets a 10-/10 from me.
- The course was very well structured. From the get-go, Professor Reese clearly established the expectations of students on the course and the amount of work that would need to be done independently and in preparation for understanding class material, perform well on tests, etc.… He was readily available to respond to any queries students had. He had notes provided ahead of time, video tutorials that students could refer to and understand how to tackle questions. In essence, he was super organized which really helps students follow the course and organize their schedule to enhance performance on the course.
- Professor Reese challenges his students to learn and grow throughout this course. His teaching style seems strict, but he is very fair and reasonable. His notes are easy to follow, and he brings the best out of his students. I would not hesitate to take another class with Professor Reese, and I actually plan on doing so.
- Professor Reese is fantastic. Organized, succinct, and clear. I have struggled in finance classes in the past and was apprehensive about taking this course, but Professor Reese’s teaching style made everything very straightforward. I thoroughly enjoyed this class.
- Professor Reese was a great instructor. Going into this course with minor knowledge in Finance, I wasn’t sure how I would manage in a graduate level course. Professor Reese quickly erased these concerns as he very effectively taught every aspect of the course in class and made it easy to follow along and learn the material. I really enjoyed the course and thought it was unbelievably valuable.
- Thought the course was well structured and extremely fair. No hidden surprises or off the wall questions. Loved professor Reese’s energy in class and his quick responses to emails and timely submission of grades to the class.
- Phenomenal class experience
- Reese is a very inspiring individual who cares deeply about the learning and well-being of his students. This is an extremely well-taught class.
- Everything that was asked of you was mad very clear and any points that people lost were fair to be taken away.
- Excellent course. The only thing I would ask for is more example questions and solutions.
- Very good instructor and explains complex problems well.
- This course was FANTASTIC. I learned so much and am pleased knowing I can take away everything I’ve learned and apply it in the real world. Overall, the course structure was exceptionally well organized, and I did not need to fish for any material. I enjoyed the website layout. Also, Professor Bill Reese is a gifted teacher. I’m honored to have had him as a professor.
- Excellent class. In fact, the teaching helped me to build a comprehensive understanding of Financial Management and their use in management context. The class was very detailed and organized and the instructor was BEST – very knowledgeable and willing to answer questions as they came up. Professor William Reese was extremely helpful in delivering the subject by integrating real world examples and explaining difficult concepts in simple terms. More importantly, he was able to give tangible examples and tie them to the coursework based on his own vast experiences. I really enjoyed the course overall and would highly recommend to other people.
- There are teachers, and then there are professors. Bill Reese is the kind of professor you remember for the rest of your life and leaves you with a feeling of wonderment. I’m pretty nervous for his upcoming exam – but I cannot say that Dr. Reese did not do everything in his power to make me prepared for it.
- Professor Reese is a phenomenal instructor. All the class information is neatly organized and accessible on the course website. There are study problems and solution videos for quizzes. There is always a practice exam. There are even solutions to the textbook questions for students looking for additional study material and practice. Overall, this was a great course and I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning the basics of finance.
- Excellent classes and professor.
- If I had to sum up this course in three words, I would say Excellence, Experience, and Passion. Thank you Professor Reese for the work you’re dong at Tulane.
- Love his effort and energy when he teaches.
- I loved the course. Prof. Reese was amazing in every aspect. His diligent, organized and relentless delivery made us all work hard and learn the basics of finance well.
- While a great course, I think students will get more out of it if they work on examples during class with a partner after he explains the concepts. We did that in accounting and it kept students engaged and we retained the course matter better. Additionally, I think a simple 5 minute break is needed. Also, it was a very difficult to actually learn the amount of problems (opposed to memorizing) he gave us with a shortened and condensed schedule. I really believe 6 long finance problems would be better than 10, especially for this shortened time period course.
- By far the most organized course I’ve ever taken. Bill is a great teacher and felt that all the math material was covered through his teaching. Read the textbook. The course did not seem like it was cut down by a third from a three-credit class to a two-credit course.
- Finance is challenging for me, but Prof Reese’s engaging approach makes it enjoyable. I am fond of his charismatic personality. He has an influential demeanor and takes pleasure in every moment of his lectures, drawing me in to learn the material in enjoyable ways.
- Awesome professor, awesome class. Tulane is lucky to have Prof. Reese!
- I think it’s difficult to grasp all the information in 6 weeks; I wish I had this course for the whole semester.
- I struggled a great deal with this course, but that is more of a personal difficulty with math-heavy tests and quizzes with a time pressure/constraints. Professor Reese is a very fair professor though and he genuinely cares about his students. I liked that the quiz questions were the same as the practice quiz questions, even if it died feel like sometimes there was so mamy types of questions in each chapter to try and learn. I also really appreciated being able to have a cheat sheet for the midterm and final exam. The one thing I would have loved is if there was a practice final exam as well. Although I knew the structure of the final from taking the midterm, its more about having a better idea of the questions/topics.
- He really knows his material, and he cares a lot about you gaining knowledge and experience at a great pace. He made it clear in the beginning; work hard and show you care and you will do fine. This could not be more true.
- Bill Reese has this class down to a science. Every single material you could ever need is available to you. The only reason to lose points on quizzes is because you did not study enough. The material is difficult and very time consuming to learn, so some weeks you may not be able to learn everything perfectly, but it is available for you. This class was hard but fair and I learned a TON about finance.
- Bill Reese has teaching this class down to a science. It is clear that he has been teaching for a long time because he has thought of how to explain everything. From providing lecture notes with every single class example, to recording and posting each lecture, to having textbook solutions posted to the last 8 versions of the textbook, he ha thought of everything we need to be successful. I greatly enjoyed the structured nature of the course. The quizzes were extremely helpful in my learning process. As someone who tends to procrastinate, I liked that they kept me accountable for keeping up with the material and not leaving it up to right before the test. Also, the quiz problems were very helpful in preparing for the test. The test-short-answer problems often very closely resembled them. I did not feel like we spent enough time learning WACC, and that was tested fairly heavily on the final. So if I could change one thing, it would be having quiz-type practice problems about WACC. Thank you Prof. Reese!
- The course packs were extremely helpful for this course as well as the videos for the quizzes. I wish we had “quiz” questions and videos for WACC even though we didn’t have a quiz because it would’ve helped for studying for the final. Studying was a lot for the weekly quizzes but it was manageable. My only issue was with ch 5 and 6. I found these chapters too difficult to do both in a week for the quiz and would have benefited from more time to learn those. I felt like I wasn’t able to learn those to the level I learned everything else.
- Professor Reese demonstrates exceptional ability in breaking down complex financial concepts into understandable terms. His lectures are well-organized, logically flowing from fundamental principles to more intricate financial strategies. His ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly and engagingly stands out. Professor Reese is an outstanding educator to the field of managerial finance. His blend of academic excellence, and commitment to student success makes him a highly respected and effective professor. Though I didn’t make the grade I was expecting, I still learned a lot and am proud to work with what I have been through.
